I began my career as a dental assistant in pediatric dentistry, but it wasn't until one fateful day that I realized dental hygiene was my calling.
A few years ago, I attended a local event in Austin, Texas, where dentists, hygienists, and assistants were needed to provide dental care for a majority of people without insurance or funds.
Procedures like extractions, fillings, and root canals were needed for nearly every patient.
More than 5,000 people were in attendance for this lengthy event, but out of all dentists and dental students present at the event, there were only TWO hygienists!
