Services
Dr. Jekel caters to families, which includes treating children three years and up.
We recommend that children come to dental appointments with mom or dad before his or her first visit.
The little one will see that the dental visit is easy and this creates a comfortable environment before his or her first appointment.
In some cases a child has a significant fear or resistance to being treated and Dr. Jekel may refer him or her to a pedodontist who specializes in children and can provide appropriate anxiety reducing medications.
When decay is detected in earlier stages, Dr. Jekel, our Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex area dentist, generally recommends a composite filling.
This is a tooth-colored resin that is placed in the prepared cavity.
This material eliminates the ability for a filling to be noticeable and prevents further decay.
This is an aesthetic alternative to the traditional amalgam (silver) filling and bonds well to tooth structure to provide years of function and durability.
A crown, or cap, is a covering for your tooth that replaces worn, broken, or decayed areas of the tooth.
Crowns provide strength, durability and function and may also be used to cosmetically enhance your smile.
Crowns are most often used to restore and protect teeth that no longer have sufficient tooth structure to support a traditional filling.
A bridge is a dental restoration that is designed to replace one or more missing teeth.
The teeth on both sides of the missing tooth space are prepared for crowns to anchor the bridge and then a custom fabricated restoration (bridge) is made and secured in place.
Dental implants are designed to replace congenitally missing teeth or teeth lost due to accidents or dental disease.
Dr. Jekel works closely with the implant surgeon for proper placement of the implant body into the jaw bone prior to anchoring a replacement crown or bridge to replace the missing teeth.
Implants may also be used to help stabilize a poorly-fitting denture or partial denture.
If you are missing teeth, please call Dr. Jekel's office in Dallas to determine if implant dentistry is right for you.
When bacteria in your mouth form a sticky film called plaque and it is not removed through brushing and flossing, it hardens into tartar.
In some patients, plaque and tartar build up more easily and/or quickly.
When this is not removed, an infection called gingivitis or gum disease results.
At this stage, the disease process can be reversed.
If untreated, however, this can lead to periodontitis, which destroys the gum attachment and supporting bone and is not reversible.
Pain, gum recession, bone loss, and eventually tooth loss are risks of gum disease.
