After graduating from Graves County High School he attended Murray State University.
While at Murray Jay received the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholarship.
Jay majored in biology with a minor in chemistry and received his degree in 2004.
He then began dental school at the University of Louisville.
While in attendance Jay was the recipient of the Clinical Community Service Scholarship where he provided free dental care for children throughout the state, including Paducah.
